Influence of TV

the other day,i walked into my house and was shocked to see my mother dressed in a white saree and sobbing away, she looked at me and ran towards me and hugged me,i knew that something terrible had happened so i got her a glass of water and tried talking to her, what she revealed to me was bad news, she said "today mihir died for the 23rd time and ive got a sinking feeling that this time it's for good"...now i knew why she was so upset, because in the housewives world this was a tragedy of 9/11ish proportions...yes ladies and gentlemen such is the impact of television on our lives...

when Marconi invented wireless telegraphy in 1897,he probably didn't know what he started,he couldn't have possibly imagned the world of today..

hours and hours of frowns and heartaches, and that too imaginary ones??..i want to ask Ekta Kapoor whether she watches any of the stuff she creates, today's television primetime is flooded with philandering spouses and family members coming back from the dead as if death were a holiday destination and not a finality...i am tired of watching the same actors playing multiple characters in similar serials,it confuses my mind,i dont know whether she just had a child or a stillborn or did she steal someone else's child..i hate having to see a 500 year old Baa with her 400 year old sons and it hurts my heart to see how somehow no household is happy, how there is always one rotten relative hell bent on destroying the family,is this what we really think or feel,no i don't think so,if my father appointed my brother as the head of the family business,id hug him with joy and would do my best to help him excel unlike in the soaps where no brother can ever see his sibling happy,WHAT RUBBISH!!...this is nothing else but a cheap way of cashing in on people's apetite for tragedy and misery.... the life of a child worth watching Shaktimaan doing some weird stunts with the use of safety cables?? he doznt hurt himself and when mindless children try being like him,all he can say is a solitary "SORRY"..does that fix any of our problems?? no it does not, nobody can fix our problems except we ourselves so let's try and combat these negative aspects of TV without forgetting that it is of some use as well..

like today our world is wired to everythying around us (pun intended)...we know what is goin on in the other corner of the world, isn't that amazing?? does that not make our worldly exsistence so much simpler?? of course it does,I can know exactly how much rainfall my cousin in South America had to tolerate and i know exactly how much snow my ex-girlfriend had to walk in to reach her High school and i love being connected,i love knowing how my dear ones are doing...besides catering to my customised needs the TV today also informs me of the Business deals around the world, looking at the Dow Jones Big Board i know exactly what's gonna hit the SENSEX and NIFTY next...thanks to the television i can watch India Play cricket in any part of the world and have the consolation that at least they din't lose because i wasn't watching,we know exactly what to expect in a movie because of the assistance we have through Television promos...television helped me experience the joy of Prince's safety after the hours he endured in a pit,i was happy to be a part of the 2 minutes silence in honour of the resilliance and guts that all Mumbaikars showed in the face of terorrism,i felt alive in all those moments,i lived a little more and felt a little more.

i truly believe that we can always use orabuse al our resources and opportunities so television today is a resource and an opportunity and it is our hands to make it an asset or a liability..my view on Television today is more of an overview and less of a biased one because i truly believe in Aristotle's words "the mark of an intelligent man is the ability to entertain a thought without accepting or rejecting it."
